Suwanee's Sweetheart Sprint

02-11-2012 Suwanee Town Center

Sweet on running? Join us Feb. 11!

If you're sweet on running, have we got an event for you! The Rotary Club of Buford/North Gwinnett is hosting its first annual Suwanee Sweetheart Sprint 5K at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 11. And, there's a sweet deal for those who register as a pair - so sign up with your sweetheart, friend, familiy member, or neighbor.

Race-day registration and packet pick-up are at Suwanee Town Center Park, located at Buford Highway and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. The race itself will begin just across the street on Main Street and wind through historic Old Town. This course may provide a good short training run for those preparing for the Atlanta Half Marathon as it has a couple of impressive hills. Runners may sign up by downloading the application available on this website (just scroll down and look for it under "Downloads" in the left margin) or by visiting active.com. The registration fee is $25 per individual or $40/pair of runners who register together.

Participants who register by February 6 are guaranteed a long-sleeve tech/dri-fit official race shirt as well as other sweet goodies. Race-day registration and packet pick-up will begin at Town Center at 7:30 a.m. Race start is at 9.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available; sponsor logos will be included on the official race shirt. Sponsor applications are available in the "Downloads" section of this website as well.

Facade Grant recently awarded to Randall Winfield

The Suwanee Downtown Development Authority recently awarded a $500 Downtown Facade Grant to the owner of a historic property located at 4043 Stonecypher Road.  Owner Randy Winfield has completely renovated the interior and exterior of his circa 1930 'craftsman' style home.  The Facade Grant reimbursed Winfield for work done to replace the front siding, replacement of the front door with a craftsman style door, and the replacement and painting of windows.

The Downtown Development Authority Chair, Kevin O'Brien, and Downtown Development Authority member, Jimmy Burnette, presented Winfield with a check last week (all pictured above). To find out howto apply for a Facade Grant, please call 770-904-3388.
